The 2023 Hagerty Radical Cup
Bradley and Ashley Gaunt, our Managing Director and Technical Director, have been competing in the 2023 Hagerty Radical Cup UK Championship. They have been racing each other to see who is the better driver.
The 2023 Hagerty Radical Cup UK is a competition for drivers of all levels, from novice to veteran. The cars are fast, exhilarating, and safe, with full factory support at all events. The spec of the cars keeps the field level and the competition focused on driving skill. Pure racing that’s fun and rewarding. This year, the Hagerty Radical Cup UK has been contested over six rounds, joining the support package for the British Touring Car Championship.

The Dispute
Ashley and Bradley have always been in a dispute as to who is the better driver. To find out, they have enlisted the help of North Motorsport, a multi-championship winning race team based in Cheshire. North Motorsport had prepared and run the race cars, with their in-house team of highly qualified race engineers on hand to help the cars reach their maximum performance.
Ashley explains how they got into racing the SR1’s and how they have improved this season, “Last year, my brother and I decided that we would have a go at racing. Mazda MX5’s were first touted, but temptation won in the end and here we are in SR1. At the beginning of the season, I was literally at the back by laps, several times I felt way out of my depth. But racing with so many top drivers has allowed me to level up to the podium in a short space of time and our coach Simon Walker-Hansell has helped us advance enough to be amongst the main action. Such fast and close racing feels amazing – I mean coming from nothing it’s just nuts! The Radical folk have been mega, supporting us all and making us feel looked after. As a complete beginner I was made to feel as much a part of top-level motorsport as the career path and veteran drivers on this thing, and getting on the big stage in front of a full TOCA crowd has been something I will never forget.”
The Standings
Ashley and Bradley Gaunt have had a fantastic rookie season in the 2023 Hagerty Radical Cup UK Championship. Their race craft and overall speed have drastically improved throughout the year, and they have both achieved impressive results. Ashley finished 6th in the PRO SR1 Cup Championship and 2nd in the Rookie Class, while Bradley finished 8th in the PRO SR1 Cup Championship and 3rd in the Rookie Class.

Next Year
In the off-season, Ashley and Bradley are planning to focus on improving their physical fitness and mental toughness. They are also planning to work with their coach, Simon Walker-Hansell, to develop new strategies and tactics. They are both determined to improve their performance next season and challenge for the championship title.
We are excited to see what they can achieve next year.
