Solar Heat Reflection Vs Light Transmission
Think of suns rays as heated particles:
Solar Heat Reflection: Bounces particles of heat away, keeping the room cooler. A higher percentage results in a cooler room.
Light Transmission: Allows particles of light to pass through the glass, brightening the room. A higher percentage results in a brighter room.
North facing Flat Glass: Choose clear glazing to maximize light and warmth as it receives less direct sunlight.
South facing Flat Glass: Choose glass with a higher solar heat reflection percentage to control solar heat and prevent overheating.
Keep in mind that it’s not possible to have both. A higher Solar Heat Reflection will reduce light transmission through the glass. This decision should be based on your customer’s needs and the direction of the rooflight. The higher the solar heat reflection, the more control you have over room ambience during changes in seasonal weather temperatures.
U Values
This measures a window’s heat loss. Lower U-values mean better insulation, keeping your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer for optimal energy savings.
